ICA Residents: Miami Music Club ft. Via App

For its inaugural ICA Residents program, ICA Miami partnered with nomadic arts collective Miami Music Club to explore the porous boundary between rhythm and its dissolution. ICA Miami presented a program conceptualized and curated by Miami Music Club, featuring experimental musical artists working outside Florida and paired with local acts of similar tendencies or mindsets.

For its final presentation, ICA Miami and Miami Music Club welcomed Via App, the project of Brooklyn-based techno producer Dylan Scheer. An emerging figure in Brooklyn’s underground club scene, Via App sculpts and collages her synthesized sound with audio samples from a wide range of Internet-sourced sounds and field recordings to create a disorienting yet dynamic narrative. Her work investigates the semiotics of pop culture, and references an amalgam of club music throughout history without adhering to any categorizable style. Support for Via App included Sarasota-based experimental project i_like_dog_face and New York-based producer Bobby Flan. DJ Romulo del Castillo (Schematic Music Company) performed between sets.

Founded in 2015, Miami Music Club is a nomadic space for music, sound, and performance focused on creating alternative social atmospheres. The club works in collaboration with musicians, artists, and institutions in order to encourage ideas and explore potentials unavailable at traditional venues for music and art.
