Liz Magic Laser, The Living Newspaper
Liz Magic Laser, The Living Newspaper.

The Living Newspaper is an interactive workshop conducted by Liz Magic Laser where participants discussed and recreated images from current news topics. The Living Newspaper was inspired by agitprop street theater developed in early Soviet Russia, which was imported to the Broadway stage during the Great Depression as part of the United States government’s Federal Theatre Project. Recently, theater practitioners including the late Brazilian director Augusto Boal have developed their own live news. Drawing upon these historic incarnations of the living newspaper, as well as therapeutic and market research techniques, Laser’s workshop is part of an ongoing project to address the role of empathy in the public understanding of current events.
